Privacy Policy

Last updated 5 June 2026

The short version. We collect almost no personal information. We currently run no advertising, set no tracking cookies, and use no analytics. The only time you deliberately hand over personal information is when you fill in the contact form — and that message is emailed straight to us so we can reply, not stored in a database or shared with anyone.

This policy explains what information The Global Clock (clock.global, “the site” or “the Service”) collects, why, and what your choices are. In this policy, “we”, “us”, and “our” refer to The Global Clock. The Service is operated from Australia.

We provide this policy as part of our commitment to handling personal information responsibly and in line with the principles of applicable privacy laws, including the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

What information is collected

1. Information you give through the contact form

If you use the contact form, you provide your name, your email address, and the message you write. This information is sent directly to our email inbox so we can read and answer it. It is not written to any database, used for marketing, or shared with third parties. It stays in our inbox only for as long as is useful to handle your enquiry.

2. Technical information collected automatically

The site is hosted on Cloudflare's network. Like virtually every website, when you visit, the hosting platform automatically processes basic technical data — your IP address, browser type and version (user agent), the pages requested, and timestamps. This data is used to serve the site, keep it secure, and prevent abuse. In particular, the contact form applies a short-lived per-IP rate limit to stop spam; your IP address is used transiently for that check and is not retained by the site in a database.

3. Cookies and local storage

The site does not currently use advertising or analytics cookies. The only client-side storage is:

  • Your theme preference (light or dark mode), saved in your browser's localStorage. This never leaves your device and is not sent to any server.
  • Security cookies set by Cloudflare, our hosting and security provider, and by Cloudflare Turnstile, the “are you human?” check that protects the contact form from bots. These are strictly necessary for security and are not used to track you across other sites.

The site currently has no Google Analytics, no advertising network, no social-media tracking pixel, and no cross-site profiling. If we ever introduce analytics or advertising, we will update this policy first and describe what changes.

Third parties that process data

Running the site involves a small number of service providers (“processors”). Each handles only what is needed to deliver the site:

Cloudflare, Inc.
Hosting, content delivery, security, the bot-protection challenge (Turnstile), and delivery of contact-form messages to our inbox via Cloudflare Email. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
WeatherAPI.com
Supplies the weather forecasts shown on city pages. Weather is requested by the server using a city's coordinates only — no personal information about you is sent. See the WeatherAPI.com privacy policy.

Why we are allowed to process this data (legal bases)

Where the GDPR applies, the legal bases for processing are:

  • Consent — when you choose to submit the contact form, you consent to your name, email, and message being used to reply to you.
  • Legitimate interests — processing basic technical/log data to keep the site available, secure, and free from abuse.

How long data is kept

  • Contact messages: kept in our email for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry, then deleted.
  • Technical/log data: handled by Cloudflare according to its own retention schedule; the site does not maintain its own separate, long-term log of visitors.

International data transfers

Cloudflare operates a global network, so technical data may be processed on servers outside your home country, including outside Australia and the EU/UK. These providers maintain their own safeguards for such transfers, described in their privacy policies linked above.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask for a copy of the personal data held about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict its processing, and (under the CCPA) to know that we do not sell or share personal information. Because the site keeps so little data, in most cases honouring a request simply means deleting an email you sent. To make a request, get in touch through the contact page.

If you are in the EU/UK and are unhappy with how a request was handled, you may also complain to your local data-protection authority. In Australia, complaints can be made to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

Children

The site is general-audience and not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has sent personal information through the contact form, please get in touch and it will be deleted.

Security

The site is served only over encrypted HTTPS connections. The contact form is protected by bot-detection (Turnstile), a honeypot field, and rate limiting. No system is perfectly secure, but the site is deliberately designed to hold as little personal data as possible — the best protection against a breach is not having the data in the first place.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time — for example, if a new feature changes what data is handled. Material changes will be reflected in the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
